Which is why our mastering engineers wouldn’t work in just any environment. They understand the importance of a perfectly designed listening room. They need the tools within a technically crafted studio, which contains state of the art hardware for giving every individual sound exactly the right touch. Our engineers can master your music blindfolded. They know their equipment so well they don’t need to see what to do to make the sound sound right.
WHAT TO ASK A MASTERING STUDIO
Some people think you can get away with using a software from home to do the mastering. Well, sure, you could. But that wouldn’t be a good idea. Why? Because it takes a trained ear with professional equipment to hear how to make the right adjustments to the tracks in order to bring out the best sound in the music. Here we answer the questions you should be asking every mastering engineer when shopping around for the right service provider.
Björn Engelmann has been mastering since 1982, that’s nearly 30 years of experience. Our other engineers have been mastering for no less than 10 years each. We choose only the most talented and qualified engineers for your music. In each of our engineer’s profiles we provide all the experience you are looking for.
We have a total of 3 mastering studios all specially designed for the ultimate acoustic experience. Sitting above the ground level, they are large enough to hold up to 10 people in the room without disturbing the acoustics. Each engineer has specially designed rooms that work just for them. We’d be happy to have you with us during a mastering session. It’s a very fun experience, we can assure you.
We are proud to be using Pyramix mastering software. They are the leading in mastering software providers and we’ve been working with them for years. We choose them because we get the best in support and the best in mastering quality. To find out more about Pyramix you can click here.
• Analog Playback Tape machines such as 1/2″ Ampex ATR 102, Studer A820, 1/4″ Studer A820, and Telefunken Special which were custom made for us.
• Analog Outboards such as GML Mastering Eq and Compressors, Manley both Eq and Compressors, Maselec Master Controls, Maselec Eq and Compressor 3-Band, Original Pultec Eq, SSL XL Logic Compressor, Alan Smart Compressor, Strohm Compressors, Tube Tech Eq and Compressors, Avalon Mastering Eq, NTI Eq, and Neumann Eq OE DUO.
• Digital Outboards we use are Weiss Eq’s and Dynamics units.
• Digital Restoration tools we like to use are CEDAR Audio for De-Noise, De-Crackle and De-Click, and Pyramix internal options.
• AD/DA Interfaces used are Prism, HDCD-Pacific Microsonics, Mytek, Danish Audio, 192 Protools. Analog Playback Tape machines such as 1/2″ Ampex ATR 102, Studer A820, 1/4″ Studer A820, and Telefunken Special which were custom made for us.
We only use speakers from ATC and Genelec.
